Christie Abercrombie is a former
Hollywood stuntwoman, member of SAG and now, the mother of
three boys. Christie grew up in Southern California,
spending most of her free time in gyms and dance studios.
Like most children, her interests evolved, and with each new
thing she tried, she brought along the skills, proficiencies
and experiences from previous endeavors.
Christie began taking dance lessons at age 4, and by 10 had
become proficient in tap and classical ballet. When she
started gymnastics, the classical ballet proved extremely
useful -- propelling her almost immediately to the
competitive team, where she won medals at state in 3 out of
4 events in her first year. Unfortunately, a growth spurt
eliminated her ability to compete in a sport dominated by
the most petite athletes.
Lucky for Christie, a trampoline coach recognized her talent
and dilemma, and introduced her to the sport of Trampoline.
Trampoline became her life. It was the thing she thought
about on the way to school, after school, and in her dreams.
In the way ballet helped her in gymnastics; gymnastics
helped her in Trampoline.
As a 5-time member of the US World Trampoline Team, Christie
traveled extensively representing the United States in
dozens of Trampoline competitions throughout the world,
becoming the first American to ever win the North American
Cup. After graduating from Chapman University, Christie
served on the Board of USA Gymnastics as an athlete
representative.
Christie earned her Law Degree from Chapman Law School, and
decided to pursue a career in the stunt business, where she
met her husband. She appeared in numerous movies,
commercials and TV shows.
After several years as a stuntwoman, the Screen Actor’s
Guild went on an extended strike, so Christie decided to
open a gym in Chatsworth, California. Christie's infectious
enthusiasm, and years in the business, helped her recruit
the best gymnasts and trampolinists as her teachers. The gym
was immediately successful. Many a business owner might have
stopped there, but Christie was an entrepreneur, and had a
vision for something bigger and better.
Soon, she opened her second location in Valencia,
California. Her new vision added many types of Dance,
Karate, Early Child Development, Birthday Parties and a
Retail Store, "Fairy and the Tramp." This second location,
which became the largest "gym" for children in California,
became the blueprint for 280Sports.
Never completely satisfied, Christie searched the nation for
the best location for an even larger "Sports Activity Center
for Kids of All Ages", and decided on Southlake, Texas.
Today, 280Sports is the largest children’s activity center
in the nation. Since Texas seems well suited to her bigger
than life activity centers, she plans to develop several
others.
